Submit Your Story

Not Just Work welcomes contributions in any form that can usefully be displayed on the internet – written, drawn, painted, and audio or video formats. If you are not sure if your contribution is appropriate, please contact us and we can discuss it.

These are our basic guidelines for submissions, almost all of them can be stretched or varied if needed for a specific story so contact us if you’re in doubt:

  • The story’s central focus is the mutually beneficial relationship between support worker and client, or an area closely related to this.
  • The story is true, and either we have permission from the people involved or names and all identifying characteristics have been changed.
  • The story is in English or includes a full translation in English.
  • The length and format are appropriate for a website. Long stories can usually be serialised into set of posts, short ones are fine, ones told totally or partially via photos, drawings, video, or other non-word-based media are also fine as long as they’ll be comprehensible to the general readership and we can find a way to put them on the website.
  • The quality is appropriate. If the story is told in words, this means that the spelling and grammar are of a fair quality. If this is a problem for you, there are members of the Not Just Work team who are willing to help you to edit for spelling and grammar – again, just contact us and ask.
  • There’s nothing that’s going to be needlessly offensive in the story’s telling. Things which include “edgy” topics and push the boundaries of appropriate are fine though.
  • There’s nothing illegal in the story. This just covers things where we could get in trouble for having the story on our website, such as if a story encourages criminal behaviour or gives instructions on how to do illegal stuff or similar.

If you aren’t sure if your story would be welcome here, please ask us. Odds are, we’d be happy to have the story here or we can work with you to edit the story so it fits these guidelines.

To submit your story, please email it to Maree and Ricky via info@notjustwork.info. We look forward to hearing from you!
